Após os singles “Get High” e “Low”, Chet Faker lança o single e clipe “Whatever Tomorrow”. A faixa, um pop solar para dias escuros, anuncia o novo álbum de estúdio do projeto que foi retomado em outubro de 2020, quando Nick Murphy retornou ao nome que o consagrou como um premiado artista. “Hotel Surrender” chega aos serviços de streaming no dia 16 de julho e já está em pré-venda.

“‘Whatever Tomorrow’ é uma resposta a essa ideia de que você tem que esperar pelas coisas que você precisa. Como se pagássemos hoje para receber algo amanhã. Eu quis dizer ‘Dane-se o que vem depois, nós merecemos nossas vidas agora”, conta Chet Faker.
A faixa é uma continuação do clima de psicodelia introspectiva presente nos últimos singles. Após um ano de incertezas em meio à pandemia, ele aborda a ambivalência do nosso futuro de frente. Como uma aceitação do futuro e do presente, os visuais refletem esses temas com Murphy aparecendo em uma TV granulada em tecnicolor.
“Eu realmente pensei na música sob uma luz diferente nos últimos tempos. Eu vejo isso como uma terapia de massa agora. Acho que costumava ver como uma situação difícil, como se estivesse em uma cruzada ou uma odisséia criativa. Agora vejo que é mais sagrado. Você tem que encontrar alguma luz – ou às vezes escuridão, o que for certo – e compartilhá-la. Percebi que esse era o coração do projeto Chet Faker. E eu senti que o mundo estava sofrendo, então pensei: ‘Posso fazer algo pequeno para dar um pouco de alegria às pessoas’”, conta Murphy.

Chet Faker surgiu em 2012 com o EP “Thinking in Textures”, o que lhe rendeu prêmios de Revelação do Ano e Melhor Single/EP Independente no AIR Awards. No ano seguinte, seu cover de “No Diggity”, do Blackstreet, chamou atenção em um comercial no Super Bowl. Não demorou muito para o álbum de estreia, “Built on Glass”, ser lançado em 2014 e alcançar o número 1 nas paradas ARIA da Austrália. O disco escrito e produzido por Murphy recebeu certificação de platina e múltiplos prêmios em todo o mundo.
Em 2016, o artista decidiu lançar seu segundo álbum como Nick Murphy, bem como o EP “Missing Link” (2017), o disco “Run Fast Sleep Naked” (2019) e o instrumental “Music for Silence” (2020), com temas que estrearam no aplicativo de meditação Calm.
Um bem sucedido pianista, cantor e guitarrista, Nick Murphy se apresentou em festivais e palcos por todo o mundo, com seu próprio nome e como Chet Faker, que agora retorna em seu novo single, “Whatever Tomorrow”, já disponível nas principais plataformas.
